My Goals with this Blog...

Are to document my experiences with various income streams and programs in my quest to becoming a full time freelancer working from home. I plan to list my current 'eggs' and to post the things that have and haven't worked for me.

See, I'm not a huge tech nerd. Orr rather..I can put together my own pc. I can sort through what parts are good, bad, and just not great for my system. But as for the software end of things I'm a bit flummoxed. I can set up small things like pc settings. But a net work? I won't even claim I'm that awesome.

See, usually I leave that kind of work to my SO. He would be the one to set up the home file server, or get things like the printer to work on the network. He would study for hours a minute problem that could mean the difference between us having net or having to ninja a neighbors way slower net. If we could get net at all. See, that's ALL on him.

But he also goes out of town often. And isn’t it great when he goes out of town so far that the problems tend to happen? It's even better what he can't remote into our systems from where he's at. And talking me through that stuff is laughable and sad.

Note: I work from home. So I can't just wait till he gets back. Half our income depends on me NOT having down time.

So, in the event of something going wrong he set up an active directory management tool. It basically automates the work he would've had to do to check on the network for regular errors – the 'small' stuff that always happens like the server not quite loading correctly, a printer command hanging, the server computer being dumb.

This has saved me from embarrassing down time, or frustration n having work I have to do right then but not being able to. Though it WOULD help if he'd like I dunno just fix the server already. He knows it has many holes that needs patching and just keeps putting it off.
