Time to get serious about SEO

Well, ever since I've had blogs up, I've been at it trying to dive head first into the world of local SEO. It's been full of it's ups and downs, in both inks and page rankings. Mind you, over the years I've found that some issues can be fixed; a glaring one was changing a blog's url from anything .blogspot.com or anything more than www.yournamehere.com. Searches I guess hate having to read more than 2 dots in a url.

But I also over time began to treat my few websites as less a hobby and more a business. I had invested money in having a custom domain for one of my blogs, but gave in giving my writing business a custom as well. It's funny how as soon as that happened, the small business marketing of said site was so easier to do. I got a lot more serious job offers and places wanting my business.

But now having three blog domains, a smaller .blospot.com domain, and a static portfolio site, I find myself going 'what do I do now?' My blogs rank higher due to myself constantly submitting posts onto them. But my portfolio site being older than like 2 of them still ranks lower. That site is where people go to see what I offer. It just doesn't rank as high as I'd like it too. I've submitted to places where I'd think it'd should be – how can I Elevate local listings for only a periodically updated site?

I am at a loss as yeah, having a rank at all is nice. And if people were to search my name it ranks high. But what if I wanted people searching for a freelance writer – will my site show up on the first page? If they search for a freelancer in my state will it show up on the first few pages? Is that site in anyway positioned to grab traffic? These questions I just can't answer myself. I'm thinking it may be that time for me to get some outside help.
