Tax Exam in my future?

I always wondered what it took to become an enrolled agent. What is an enrolled agent exactly?

'What is an enrolled agent?' An enrolled agent is a person who has earned the privilege of practicing, that is, representing taxpayers, before the Internal Revenue Service.' - from

So, basically a tax preparer. And funny enough you don't need a degree for it, just an exam. Kinda like the guys who take small courses and get certs in computing. This test is simply an enrolled agent examination. And considering anything that doesn't require full on schooling (been there, done that) I am very tempted to try this.

Mind you, that price tag is a bit of a set back. Well anything at this point in time is with my budget. But considering $200 for the full course, books and all testing sessions verses the local community college requiring at least $100 per credit hour, plus tuition, plus books your looking at $300+ at least in fees for one course. This in turn makes this way cheaper. May save up and give this a go.

And besides, it'd be fun to have on my resume tax preparer. And it seems that kind of skill is always in demand.
